First World War collections in the Northern Ireland War Memorial

The Northern Ireland War Memorial and the First World War.

Alan Freeburn (Collections Officer) from the Northern Ireland War Memorial will talk about the museums First World War collections.

This talk will be proceeded by the Annual General Meeting of the Antrim and Down Branch of the Western Front Association.

POSTPONED Victory Party at the Museum @ Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum

The Northern Ireland War Memorial closed to the public on Monday 16th March 2020 until further notice. This decision was taken in the interest of staff, visitors and volunteers as the the COVID-19 outbreak continues.

As a result, we have POSTPONED all our VE Day events that were due to take place in May 2020.

Victory Party at the Museum

Friday 8th May 2020

10.30am – 4.30pm 

Join us for a family fun day at the museum with wartime entertainment and food reflecting the 1940s.

This will be an intergenerational event with learning activities for all ages.

Dress up in 1940s uniforms and have a souvenir photograph taken using green-screen technology. Take part in various craft activities, suitable for all ages to enjoy.

A Piper will play Battle’s O’er at 3pm.

Noel Thompson and Kerri Quinn will host a fantastic evening of wartime entertainment to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day with Swingabella, Ballroom Blitz Formation Dance Team, live band and fascinating stories from the museum’s collection.

“People took to the streets to celebrate peace and hope for the future”

Study of objects from the museum with Hannah Ferguson   

At 2.30pm on Saturday 16th May, artist Hannah Ferguson will take over our Facebook Live to create a study of objects from the museum.

Join Hannah as she creates a colourful piece of art in 30 minutes, focusing on composition, colour and texture. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to lift a paintbrush or a pencil and draw a selection of museum worthy objects from your  home.

We will also be launching a drawing competition for kids. The winner will receive a years worth of confectionery, based on Second World War rations of 2 oz. per week (6 lb. 8 oz.)
