NIWM Lecture Series 2019

The Ulster Home Guard in the Second World War

David Orr

Thursday 24th October 2019 at 7.00pm

Northern Ireland War Memorial

This presentation will provide an overview of the Ulster Home Guard during the Second World War. From 1940 to 1944 and uniquely in the United Kingdom, the Home Guard in Northern Ireland was raised as an extension of the constabulary forces which were administered by the Stormont Government. This unusual arrangement led to a number of differences between the Home Guard raised in Ulster and that raised in Great Britain.

David Orr is the author of Duty Without Glory and has co-authored a number of other books.
