Second World War Aviation Archaeology by Jonny McNee

Join us on Thursday 30 November 2023 at 7pm at The Northern Ireland War Memorial for a FREE lecture titled, 'Second World War Aviation Archaeology' by Jonny McNee.

This presentation will cover the highs and lows of aviation archaeology. Jonny McNee will talk through his career so far, including his attempts to change the perception of this relatively new field of archaeology and promote it as a responsible activity with much to offer the wider archaeological community and schools.

The lecture will take place at The Northern Ireland War Memorial, 21 Talbot Street, Belfast, BT1 2LD at 7pm.

About the lecturer:

Jonny McNee is a Senior Marine Planner within the Marine and Fisheries Division of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. Outside of his day job, he is a successful amateur aviation and archaeologist. He has acted as an aviation consultant for several groundbreaking BBC NI series and regularly undertakes licensed digs for popular archaeology programmes, including Digging for Britain, and also for museums.

Jonny McNee is the author of The Story of the Donegal Spitfire a book about his 2011 recovery of an RAF Eagle Squadron Spitfire from a deep mountain bog in Co. Donegal.
