Known as Jim, he was declared dead 'in consequence of war operations' at an inquest held at Belfast City Hall on 12 June 1941.

He was killed at his home on Duncairn Gardens during the Easter Tuesday Raid.

Seventeen people in total were killed here including his parents Nathaniel and Alice and sisters Joanna, Phyllis, Alice and Ann.
