Leonard was killed when a parachute mine landed on Veryan Gardens during the Easter Tuesday Raid.

His three sons, Leonard, James and Rowland also lost their lives. At least 35 people were killed in this incident.

He is buried along with his sons James and Leonard in Belfast City Cemetery.
