Francis was killed when a wall of York Street Spinning Mill collapsed onto Sussex and Vere Street during the Easter Tuesday Raid.

At least 20 people in total were killed on Sussex Street including his brother Charles, sister in law Elizabeth and nephew Dennis.

Francis is buried in Milltown Cemetery.
