Education Officer Recruitment
The Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM) was established to provide an enduring memorial for the men and women of Northern Ireland who died in the two World Wars, and to commemorate the American presence in Northern Ireland during the Second World War.
An Accredited Museum, our mission is to tell the story of Northern Ireland’s role in the Second World War comprehensively and authentically with accessible and engaging learning programmes. In addition, the NIWM maintains war memorials to the fallen in the First and Second World War and the Belfast Blitz, provides office accommodation to ex-service charities and awards small grants to projects which are in line with its charitable objectives.
The NIWM offers city centre staff car parking, a generous annual leave allowance of 25 working days per annum with 14 additional statutory days (pro-rata) and private health insurance. The organisation operates a defined contribution pension plan with employer contributions currently at an attractive 10% of pensionable pay. The NIWM is committed to staff wellbeing and professional development through an annual appraisal system and a dedicated staff training budget.
The Council of the Northern Ireland War Memorial (Incorporated) is a registered charity (NIC 103635) and a company limited by guarantee (NI 002888). As a charity the NIWM is financially independent and is not reliant on external funding.
The Role:
The primary role of the Education Officer is to deliver primary school workshops in the museum using the museum collection as the focus for learning. The Education Officer will also provide learning workshops off-site as part of the NIWM Outreach programme.
The Education Officer will assist with the development of new innovative and engaging workshops and resources which promote access to the collection for a range of audiences including under 5s and post primary schools.
This role is suited to an individual who can inspire and engage with children and young people. It is important that the applicant has a strong knowledge of the Second World War and embraces working in a positive, respectful and team-focused environment.

Applicants should also be able to think creatively to produce imaginative and innovative activities to enhance learning.
This is a permanent, on-site, part-time post of 30 hours a week worked over 5 days (9.00am- 3.00pm). Reasonable overtime may be expected. Full terms available on request.
